**The Appalachian Entrepreneurship Academy is an experiential learning opportunity for Appalachian high school students, designed to cultivate creativity and develop essential skills for entrepreneurship. **Participating students develop their business ideas to address challenges and strengthen communities across Appalachia, concluding with a pitch presentation to an audience of entrepreneurs. **In partnership with Appalachian State University, EntreED and STEM West, the program prepares the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders and thinkers by fostering innovative ideas that will benefit Appalachian economies and communities. APPALACHIAN STEM ACADEMY AT OAK RIDGE **The Appalachian STEM Academy at Oak Ridge is a residential, hands-on learning experience that has pioneered access to STEM-related research opportunities for Appalachia’s middle and high school students and teachers for 30+ years. **Participating students work with award-winning scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, a U.S. Department of Energy research facility, on guided group science, math, computer science and technology projects; participating teachers collaborate with STEM practitioners to develop STEM-related curriculum for their students. **The program provides students – many of whom come from economically distressed counties – with valuable exposure to applied STEM education, concluding with a graduation ceremony where participants showcase their work. |
The link to register will be active starting December 14th. Both programs have an online application which goes directly to ARC. If an applicant doesn’t have reliable internet access and is unable to complete the application at school, they can forward the information to jlench@pa.gov and she will complete the application on their behalf.
These programs should be targeted to the student that has not had any similar opportunities, nor would their families be able to send their students to this type of experience. These programs are appropriate for students that have average grades in school.
- AEA is for high school students currently in grades 9, 10 and 11
- Must attend public school or be home-schooled in any of the 52 Pennsylvania ARC counties
- July 8-21, 2023 at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina
- Oak Ridge is for Middle School students (current 6th, 7th and 8th graders), High School students and High School teachers
- High School students (currently 16 years or older in 9th, 10th or 11th grades) and teachers attend the program in Oak Ridge, TN July 8-21, 2023
- Middle School students attend the program in Oak Ridge, TN July 8-14, 2023 OR July 15-12, 2023
- Must attend public school or be home-schooled in any of the 52 Pennsylvania ARC counties
